Current Pupils

Dear all
I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas Concert on Saturday. I’m pleased to announce that we raised over £100 for Elizabeth House.
Our next concert will be at the Royal Festival Hall on the 18th March and as I know the standard at this event is going to be incredibly high I would like to encourage everyone who is taking part to practise like crazy over the next few months. Also, If anyone is interested there will be a workshop in Bristol on the 15th January to help get us started.
The pieces that we will be playing are:
Book One
Lightly Row, Funky Twinkle starting on C, Twinkle starting on D and Twinkle starting on A, Allegro starting on A, Long Long Ago starting on G, Minuet 2, Minuet 3.
Book Three
Humoresque, Serenade by Woodall
Plus: Funky Twinkle, Advanced part for Lightly Row, 2nd Part for Humoresque, French Folk Song – MP3 attached, Witches Dance – MP3 attached and advanced part for Perpetual Motion
Here is a link to listen to Funky Twinkle and the advanced version of Lightly Row.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you about the group classes on the 28th January and the 25th February. It is essential that everybody who is taking part in the National Concert attends these classes.
I am still waiting to hear what time we are expected to be at the Royal Festival Hall on the 18th March but I imagine it will be around 9.45am.
Thank you for all your help and support this year
Have a wonderful Christmas and see you all the week starting 9th January.
Julia
Dear parents
I hope you have had a relaxing spring break.
I am just writing to let you know that individual lessons will resume on Monday 19th April
We have one performance opportunity lined up for this term:
Saturday 3rd July – MusicFest, Hedsor Golf Course, Wooburn Common.
We took part in the same event in 2008 and it was very successful despite the weather. There will be lots of other ensembles and bands taking part and there are plenty of other activities going on if you want to stick around after the performance.
Dates for your Diary

Saturday 24th April– Group Class at Elizabeth House in Cookham
Green Group 2.30 – 3.30
Violet Group 3.30 – 4.30
Saturday 29th May – Group Class at Elizabeth House in Cookham

Saturday 26th June – Group Class at Elizabeth House in Cookham

Please can you let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend any of the group sessions!

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the sponsored practice and concert in aid of CLIC Sargent. I will be collecting the sponsor money next week.
Did you see the article in the Maidenhead Advertiser? As usual they changed everything I had written but at least we got our picture in the paper!
I would like to spend the first week back concentrating on review and listening. You should all have the CD for Suzuki book 1-2 but can I suggest that you also get a copy of the book 3 – 5 CD which is available from the BSI shop. In the same way that we learn how to talk listening really is the easiest way to learn a piece by memory. In addition to the Suzuki repertoire you may also want to borrow a flutey CD from my lending library.
Notebooks: Please can I remind everyone to bring a notebook and pen to all individual lessons. It is so easy to forget what needs to be practiced during the week and I’m sure nobody wants to have the same lesson twice.
Finally, I believe there are still some places on the 2010 International Suzuki Flute and Recorder Workshop at Bolitho School in Penzance . The course begins on the 4th August with a play together at 5pm , followed by dinner and a party and finishes after lunch on the 8th August. On the Saturday evening there will be a public concert at St Mary’s, a local church.
I will be going this year and it would be great to have a few of my students there as well.
If you have any questions please feel free to give me a call or send me an email.
Thank you for all your support this term

Summer School: Here is a poster for the 2010 International Suzuki Flute and Recorder Workshop at Bolitho School in Penzance.
This course is a fantastic opportunity for students familiar with the Suzuki repertoire to attend four fun-filled days of masterclasses, group lessons, repertoire classes, flute choir playing and daily concerts.
The course begins on the 4th August with a play together at 5pm, followed by dinner and a party and finishes after lunch on the 8th August. On the Saturday evening there will be a public concert at St Mary’s, a local church.
Early afternoons will be kept free of musical activities so that the many recreational opportunities at the school and in the surrounding area may be enjoyed.
Bolitho School is set in several acres of tranquil grounds and is a 10 minute walk from the sea. The School also has tennis courts and there is an open-air swimming pool close to the school.

Congratulations to Becky Kershaw who completed her Suzuki Book One Concert last term and to Victoria Gordon for completing her Twinkle Medal.
Congratulations also to everyone who took part in the concert on the 11th July in aid of the Kazi Mini foundation. The total amount raised came to £204.00 which is fabulous and all the money will go straight to the school to help with the construction of the new staff houses.
Review: I would like to use this opportunity to remind everybody about the importance of review. Not only does it enable us to play together at concerts and group classes it also enables us to work on technical skills found in new pieces and reinforces skills that have already been learnt.
Please click here for some handy review charts for books 1-3. You can also buy Mr Quantz’s review game for books one and two from me or www.soundtrain.co.uk for £5.
Listening: Listening is an essential part of learning the flute but if you are getting tired of listening to Mary had a little lamb etc you might like to get hold of some new recordings. If you haven’t got it already, the Book 3-5 CD is available from the BSI shop or you might like to borrow a flutey CD from my lending library?
Notebooks: Please can I remind everyone to bring a notebook and pen to all individual lessons.
If you have any questions please feel free to give me a call or send me an email.
